I have taken numerous pets here over the years: Guinea pigs, a bird, dogs and cats. I have also worked in the animal industry for ten years, for shelters, vets, and on the retail side. Any vet you will go to will be expensive, so the question is, where will you get the knowledgeable, personal, care… Niles definitely provides that. I haven’t used Niles in a couple of years, but only because it is far for me to travel. However, I am taking a trip across the country next week, and my now usual vet was closed due to a power outage. Niles managed to work my 2 cats and a dog in that day, and we didn’t even have to wait that long. My dog is very special needs, and everyone there was absolutely willing to work with her however it would be best for her, which meant keeping her in the exam room for everything. Never have I been disappointed with a doctor here, and never have I walked away thinking the doctor/staff didn’t know what they were talking about. I would recommend this hospital to almost anyone.

A few weeks ago I had to have my little parrot put down at Niles. Dr. Sakas has been my parrots’ vet for 23 years he discovered my little guy had an enlarged heart with complications. My parrot was in the hospital for 10 days and the staff was wonderful to us. They suggested visits and even called me first thing on a Sunday morning while they were closed to give me an update. A few weeks after I had to say good-bye I received a card from U of I College of Veterinary Medicine letting me know that they received a “very generous” monetary donation from Niles in my parrots’ name. The kindness Niles showed was really beyond anything I would have expected.

I love the Niles Animal Hospital. We’ve been with them since 2001 with our first Lab, Mia (who recently passed). Dr. Sakas is the only vet I’ve met that actually gets down on the floor with the animals to check them out from the tip of their nose to the tip of their tail! I find he has a wonderful balance of professionalism & compassion. When our Mia was sick, Dr Sakas was so easily available to us to answer questions and make dosage adjustments. When it was time to say goodbye to our Mia, the staff was so compassionate. They really get that pets are members of your family and the community. When we made the decision to rescue another dog – Dr. Sakas was genuinely excited for our family and has been a great coach for us. Kudos to Sakas for creating & maintaining a top notch facility – I wish more Vets could follow in his footsteps. You can tell he loves what he does…we should all be so lucky.

I have had birds since the 1970’s. I was privileged to have had Dr. Lafeber, the original of Niles Animal Hospital and have been going there ever since. Dr Peter Sakas has been my vet since the 1980’s and I think he is the best Dr. ever!!! My cockatiel Buddy Bird is now 20 years old, and with Dr Sakas’ good advice and my cooperation I am so very thankful. Thank God there is a Niles Animal Hospital. I don’t think there is any one better in our whole state probably in other states as well.
Thank you,

I have been going to Niles with my birds for over 14 years. They have saved a few of them from serious illness a number of times. I wouldn’t go anywhere else! Yes, I have to wait but I always bring a good book because they take such good care of my birds. I recommend them to many people.

I’ve been going to Niles for years as it is near my home. I’ve been bothered by the wait in the past, but since seeing Dr. Staunton, I no longer have to worry! Dr. Staunton has me in and out with my cats in no time. He also has a very practical approach (doesn’t run every test possible just to rack up the bill). I will never see another vet.

I moved recently, but since my cat was very sick and I didn’t trust anyone else, I drove up to Niles Animal Hospital to see Dr. Staunton. Unfortunately, in this emergent situation, I couldn’t see him, but opted for Dr. Sakas who was available. My cat was in end-stage kidney failure and so she had to be put down. Dr. Sakas was wonderful. He handled Ms. Fuzziwhig with such compassion. I won’t hesitate to head back up there even for routine visits knowing these two docs are there to care for my other baby.

I have been taking my many dogs, cats, and birds to Dr. Sakas at Niles Animal Hospital for over 30 years. He is a skilled avian surgeon and knows dog and cat ailments and how to treat them. The hospital has an in house lab for quick evaluations, uses state of the art surgical techniques and has digital imaging systems. Appointments have always been convenient and short wait times reasonable. Dr. Sakas is a solution seeker, and not negative. I have been to other veterinary clinics over the years but found none better than Niles Animal Hospital and Dr. Sakas.

Niles Animal Hospital is THE place to take your exotic birds or your regular pets. Dr. Peter Sakas is the owner, and he is a foremost leader in Avian medicine, having written books extensively on the subject. I bring my flock there!
Their prices are reasonable, and they give discounts on two or more animals registered there. I lost my best friend in December 2006, a lab/shep mix. They were very compassionate, helped me through the ordeal, and respected my “private time” with my best friend at the end. I recommend them highly!
