We have a wide variety of medications used to treat pet birds. In addition, there are medications that we formulate or have formulated at an outside pharmacy that we keep in our pharmacy. In this way the medication that we prescribe for your bird are readily available on site for your (and your bird’s) convenience.
One of the AAHA accreditation requirements is to have a fully stocked in house pharmacy which we do have. As we see a wide variety of animals at Niles Animal Hospital, it goes without saying that we have to have a equally diverse inventory of medications in order to provide for their care. We have all sorts of medications including antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, anti-inflammatories, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, antihistamines, nutritional supplements, nutraceuticals, holistic medications and supplements, prescription diets, limited ingredient diets, various heartworm preventative medications, various flea and tick preventatives, all sorts of ointments, topical treatments for skin and ear conditions, shampoos (regular and medicated) and conditioners, hormonal supplements and therapeutics, injectable medications, oral liquid medications and the list goes on. In fact, we even do our own compounding/formulations of certain medications in the hospital to ease the administration of certain medications.
Despite the large inventory of medications that we have, we do not carry every medication that we may require and sometimes have to prescribe these to outside pharmacies. However, we strive to have enough types of medications so you can have your pet examined and then pick up the medications needed all in one stop, so to speak. We try to be as accommodating as we can for you and your pets.
