Niles Animal Hospital is now offering holistic consultations and acupuncture for dogs, cats, avians, and exotics! Dr. Linda Yang has always had an interest in acupuncture as an alternative or adjunctive therapy to Western veterinary medicine. She participated in an exchange program overseas in Beijing, China for veterinary acupuncture during veterinary school and later received training in small animal acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) at the Chi Institute in 2015.
Acupuncture has been used medically in China for 2000 years prior to any advances in medicine and technology that we have today. Scientific studies now show that acupuncture helps reduce inflammation, reduce pain by releasing endorphins, promotes blood circulation, and stimulates the central nervous system. The National Institute of Health (NIH acknowledges the benefit of acupuncture for osteoarthritis and musculoskeletal pain, and new studies are coming out every year showing benefits for internal medicine issues such as GI disease or reproductive disease.

Please be aware that at this time most holistic consultations will primarily focus on the application of acupuncture. However, Dr. Yang is continuing to expand her knowledge into other holistic fields such as herbal medicine, laser therapy, and food therapy and may include some discussion of these other modalities during the appointment.
Please bring any supplements or medications your pet is currently on with you to the initial holistic consultation, ESPECIALLY if you have any questions regarding supplements.
